Text Box: PLIOGRIP EPOXY RESIN PER 526 AND PLIOGRIP HARDENER PH 972 IN FRP FOR PRE-IMPREGNATION (PREPREG) TECHNIQUE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

PLiOGRIP EPOXY RESIN PER-526 is an unmodified solvent free liquid resin that can be used with PLiOGRIP HARDENER PH 972, an aromatic polyamine, for making fibre reinforced plastic composites. Although it can induce cure to the "B-stage" at room temperature, it requires elevated temperature for full cure to the "C-stage". It can be used for match diemoulding, laminating by the prepreg technique and pultrusion. Laminates made with this hardener can be subjected to operating temperature of 165°C. They also process good dielectrical properties.

MIXING RATIO (PARTS BY WEIGHT)

B-STAGE" CURE

The solvents like methyl ethyl ketone / acetone are added to the desired extent so as to obtain the viscosity suitable for impregnation of glass fabric. The impregnated cloth is passed through a heating zone of a conveyor oven where it is precured for 15 minutes @ 100°C, The prepreg thus obtained will be dry-to-touch.

"C-STAGE" CURE

PRODUCTION OF LAMINATE

The following information may be used as a guideline for the production of laminates.

As a rule, the press is charged when cold and temperature and pressure are slowly increased. To avoid warping, the laminate should be cooled down to room temperature under pressure and then removed.

POT LIFE WITHOUT SOLVENT FOR 100 GM MASS

Since the reaction is exothermic the above chart is only a guideline. If the quantity of the mix is increased or if the temperature of the mix is increased the pot life will decrease. The pot life (for 100 gm mass) with 100 phr. MEK at 20°C will be around 5 days. It is advisable to consume the mix within 2 days of its preparation.

SAEFTY PRECAUTIONS:
Direct contact of Resin/Hardener with skin should be avoided. Use of hand gloves while handling them is recommended. Splashes on the skin, if any, should be removed immediately with soap and lukewarm water or with a suitable remover.

STORAGE:
Should be stored in closed containers in cool condition away from direct sunlight. Shelf life of Resin & Hardener @ 25°C. is about 18 months from the date of manufacturing.
